Issue 26 (July – Aug 2014)

COVER STORY:
Munich Re's Marcus Hanrieder on Successfully Finding His Feet in Malaysia Munich Re has been around for a long time, 137 years to be exact, leaving Marcus with some pretty big shoes to fill in Malaysia. He sits down with Kashini Krishnamurthy on his move to Asia and how he has successfully adapted to the local culture.

FEATURES:
Consumer Education and Protection Insurance is an intangible item which is merely a promise of compensation for a specific potential future loss in exchange for a period payment i.e. the premium. Insurance is designed to protect the financial well-being of an individual, a company or any other entity in the case of an unexpected loss. Basically this is a contract between the insurer and the insured entered into on "utmost good faith" between both the parties.

PRS Youth Incentive: Start Early For Your Retirement We often hear the adage that "the early bird catches the worm." In the aspect of retirement planning this is especially true. But, in this day and time, young adults who just started work are faced with a multitude of commitments and challenges.

CHALLENGE:
Improving Consumer Education and Protection As a general rule, insurance is not something that is given much thought most of the time, for various universal as well as culture-specific reasons.

INSIGHT:
Estimating the Protection Gap Friday 27th June 2014 marked a significant milestone for the Malaysian Takaful Association, with the launching of their research publication, titles "The Story of Gap: Charting Takaful Growth in Malaysia" by the Hon. Deputy Minister of Finance Dato' Hj. Ahmad Maslan, at Lanai Kijang.

  FOCUS:
Open Column: Takaful - How It All Started and Where It Is Now -  From the heart of Roslinah Daud.

  TRENDS:
Detariffication in the Malaysian General Insurance Sector: What to Expect? Why might Malaysian insurers’ experience be different from that experienced by China and India following detariffication?
